It seems that most of the seat bolt plastic covers I have come across are already broken. It's a royal pain in the but as you may well be aware plastics seem to deteriorate with time and on these old cars that darn stuff gets to be rather brittle.
The covers will break for sure if you try to lift them straight up. In stead raise the seat all the way up to give you room to work. You will then notice a round hole in the cover, stick your finger in the hole and slide the cover forward, the cover will come lose be careful of the tab at the rear as it breaks easily, carefully lift the front of the cover up to clear the rear tab from its hole. On my car I've noticed that the outboard tab on the outboard cover was never engaged properly due to carpet being in the way. Cutting a narrow strip of carpet away should clear the path for re-installing the cover. I know they are awkward little buggers but with some patience it's entirely possible to remove the covers and put them back on with little or no damage.
