FYI, these pumps are prone to electrolysis and will develop holes in them. I repaired one a few years ago with epoxy, still going. I also installed a ground wire to the body as they are suspended in rubber.

Thanks, Dick. The pump is split around about one third of the circumference at the electrical connection end. It's up in the shop and I have left a message for Jonathan.
I may just get the pump, etc. from Mercedes tomorrow.
I don't have the "proper" clamp for the fuel line (I don't even know what that is) and had planned to use vice grips and something between the jaws and the hose-maybe a piece of wood ?
