What most of us don't realize is that insurance companys have to pay you. Let me say that again..." THEY HAVE TO PAY YOU!" The thing is that they are going to low ball you hoping that you will just agree or accept the fact that what they say goes. Whether you are trusting, gullable, unconfrontational, passive, or just a "nice person" they got you and they know it. BUT!... Do not sign the paper ANY paper, until they have met a price that you are comfortable with. Be addiment about everything and no matter what they say, don't give in and I gaurantee you they will come back to you with at least 3 higher offers. Remember THEY HAVE TO PAY and until you hear "this is our final offer" they still have room to play. Receipts are always good but not absolutely neccessary. They will come up with excuses or reasons why your particular car doesn't deserve that. Tell them they are "crazy", that "they must have lost their mind if they think you'll agree to that". Hang up on them once or twice. They won't be real happy with you but their happiness doesn't replace your car. Hold your ground and you''l be amazed at how they will come to you. I didn't say meet you half way, I said come to you! Good luck!
Paul

I agree with Mike. I had my ’83 380 appraised 4 months ago with 576 K on it.
It has new paint within the last 4 years.
New interior, rebuilt upper engine, transmission freshly done
The number was $ 14.500

You HAVE to get a professional appraisal. The insurance company will not believe anything else. I got double their initial offer for my '82 300D because of the appraisal. Use the yellow pages to find one in your area then ask what they know about a 126. It will likely cost you between $200 and $300 for the appraisal and will be worth every penny.

Hi All, I need some help please ASAP. I was clobbered in my '90 SEC last Thursday by a Toyota Tundra full size pick up. My car was nearly perfect with 94K miles. The other driver was 100% at fault and his insurance takes full liability on his part. The left side took the hit and sent me sideswiping a telephone pole.
Here is my problem. The insurance company has put a value of $7800 on the car. The car is repairable but it will be close to the $7800 and they may want to total the car. I want it repaired as it is mostly sheet metal damage. Can any or all of you provide me with recent sales of or advertisements of '90 or '91 SECs that can establish the true value of this fine car?
NADA Classic, Collectible Exotic etc places the value on an '89 for high value at $14,300 I'm not unreasonable but I can not imagine finding a '90 near perfect (in every respect) 94K mileage car for $7800. Pleas help me out and gather substantiation for me or suggest sources other than e bay or Hemmings to present to the insurance adjuster on Friday afternoon. Thank you
Doug in Houston
