Your meter when set to read resistance should read 'closed' when the car is at idle and the throttle plate properly closed off in the throttle body. As soon as you depress the accelerator or move the throttle linkage the tps should read open.
So using an analog meter the needle sweeps clear over as you would see when you take both meter probes and touch them together (that's Closed). Now when you separate the two meter probes the meter needle will be at rest (said to be Open).
I assume you've figured out which terminal is COMMON and which is WOT and which is IDLE?
If using a digital meter, let me know.

You need to check the closed position of the throttle plate in the throttle body then attach the tps and test. You may have a bad wiring harness to the tps as well. If the car was starting then stopping abruptly it could well be the throttle plate and body have a build up of carbon. This will prevent the throttle plate from closing and your tps will never read closed circuit at idle as it should.

i replaced the old one and i still get the number 10 code which is the tps. so i'm wondering do i need to calibrate the tps. i was told if i did i had to use a analog multi meter. and what parameters/numbers am i looking for?
