[W126 Coupe] Stubborn fan

Hi Group,

My A/C/heater blower fan never stops running. It functions perfectly well when the A/C or heater is on. The trouble is when the heating/cooling is stopped, because the blower keeps running at the slowest speed. My mechanic says the regulator is faulty which I prefer to leave as a final option because of its price. Any suggestions?
