I wouldn't convert, but that's just me.
If you are going to, I'd replace the drier and expansion valve. While in the process run a gallon or so of flush through the system and then re-fill with the correct oil. Don't forget to R&R the compressor and flush/refill it as well!
Do not use the port on the compressor.

Any tricks to converting to 134a, I've installed new valve cores and new fittings.That's it. I bought the interdynamics conversion kit. There are three ports to hook up to.
