Greetings team!

As some of you know I have just completed a resto on my timber trim.

I accept that some of the members want to go with a different wood grain
from the usual burlwood or even a metallic brush finish to update the look
of our cars.

Most of us know that the timber is a laminated sheet of walnut over a
backing piece.

In most cases the urethane can be finely sanded with a new coat applied to
bring back the old luster - it is the urethane than goes milky and dulls
off.

However sometimes the urethane is cracked all the way through that laminate
- in such cases the laminate has to be rematched and done again.

I used an antique furniture restoration guy to do my cracked pieces - he
French polished and retinted back to the original.

If one wants to change the grain to say rosewood (very nice indeed!) then
remove the panels and have them all relaminated.

If a metallic finish (or any other preference) is wanted then use the
original pieces for templates and let the dash board experts complete their
task to do the plastic things.

We have such a company here as well; the current technology in high grade
paints has enabled many incredible finishes for those that want a specific
result.
