I was once manning an exotic car dealer showroom in Los Angeles. I had just
closed for the evening when I heard a commotion outside. No less than 3
patrol cars and 3 motor officers screached to a hault in front and came
rushing up to the door.
They forced themselves in and claimed the Ferrari Testarossa on the showroom
floor was stolen and they were there to confiscate it. Then a civilian who
came with them claimed it was his car. Hmmm, I said, I have the signed title
for this car. Well the idiot who claimed it was his car had pawned the car
and failed to pay up and so we purchased it. The title was signed but he
denied it was his signature. Anyway, he had a lot of explaining to do to the
police.
When you sign the title here in California you have given up ownership to
the car.

Hi in Nevada,
The signature of the buyer is irrelevant. The seller is the important
signature witnessed by the notary. If what you said is true is Nevada then I
am glad that Carolina has this law( requiring a notary stamp/signature of
seller). It appears to prevent theft without a big hassle but yes, I
understand there are ways around this.

Jay
