[W126 Coupe] Rear Vent: Hot Air

Folks,
My 1991 560SEC (US) rear vent only blows outside air temperature, no hot
or A/C air. I too have heard various stories about how these things are
supposed to work. My 1987 300SDL blows hot or cold along with the front
vents.
By the way, the dashboard vents on both cars blows hot, cold, or outside
when I push the right buttons to select the air source.
I don't know where to find out how these things are supposed to work in
the various models and years of the 126 chassis.
John

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Rear Vent: Hot Air

Güten morgen,

I've often read (and as a quick search example, this post also states
so: http://db.mercedes.cx/sec/199910/0166.html) that the rear vent only
blows cold air (fresh, or airconditioned). I can however state that my 1990
560SEC most certainly provides both cooled and hot air though the rear vent
- This was demonstrated this morning when it blew cold air (windows closed,
driving in the sun) but a few moments after I opened all my windows, it
started blowing hot air in the rear as well as the front to compensate.

The only "cold-air-only" vents on my car are the main ones on the dashboard,
as they should be. This is a small thing, but I am curious about why there
are often posts stating that the only hot air to the rear are through the
footwell vents, whilst this is demonstrably not true in my case. This is
either a Euro/US difference, or maybe a later model year update, or it's
just something that regularly malfunction on people's cars?

Can we settle this? Does anybody have accurate information?

kind regards,
Dawid
