[W126 Coupe] Gear Selection Labels: Do they light up?

Thank you so much for the informative answers :-) My 560SEC is a 1990
model, and since the gear shift pattern is the
only lights that are out (all the rest is fine) I am certain that
it's the latter (easier, phwew!) option of the
single bulb in the shift gate.
Over the weekend, I'll remove the coin tray and have a look...
