[W126 Coupe] License plate backers for Euro spec 560 SEC

Everyone:
 
I just bought a 1991 560 SEC that has never been licensed in the U.S. The  
stainless steel plates that attach to the bumpers and back the license  plates 
are about 4 inches longer than typical U.S. plates hence, you can see a  
stainless steel border on each end of my Texas plates and it looks  half-finished. 
Does anyone have a source for a backing plate that matches  the matte grey 
finish of the bumpers? My only other options seems to  be priming and painting the 
existing stainless plates.
 
And, to Mark Reimers...I took delivery of my car in Costa Mesa and went  east 
across the desert through Tucson to Houston. This trip was also something  of 
a leap of faith but, like you, I decided to repair as I went, if necessary.  
Not the scenic drive you will have but high speed (100-140  mph) cruising 
across the desert is its own reward. Arrived in Houston  without a scratch, repair 
bill (Thank you Mercedes Benz), or a ticket (Thank you  Passport). Good luck 
and have a safe flight north.
