Hi Vance,
I love this website, never had so much fun since owning this computer, sure glad I discovered it. I have never actually tried it myself but a friend of mine who own a 500 SEC told me this the way I passed it on. I appreciate you setting me straight on it because actually it didn't make sense the way my friend explained it. Your way makes perfect sense, of course I know about the kickdown, all automatic transmissions have it as far as I know. But just like another member said the other day He's used to being wrong, he's married. Anyhow I really like your explanation and I'll keep that in mind if I ever happen to sit next to a Corvette at a stoplight, just kidding I can't afford to treat my car like that on my retirement pension.

Hi Carl,
Your explanation of "When you put your gear shifter all the way back and to the right" is another way to do a first gear start. The 560 SEC will normally start in second gear unless as I have mentioned before you have the actual first gear start module. To do this properly, just make sure you are firstly at a stop with your foot on the brake, move the selector all the way back, slide over to the right (this will hit a microswitch), but then move the selector back to drive before you set off. As long as you kept your foot on the brake, as soon as you hit the accelerator, you will do a true first gear start. Never leave the selector in the position where it hits the switch (at least not for this purpose). Of course depending on what tires you have and what road surface you are on, sometimes you would not accelerate as fast in the long run for two possible reasons. The first one is you could just leave a 1000 miles worth of rubber on the road and you of course wouldn't be going anywhere while this is happening. Secondly, if your car has ASR (traction control) it won't allow you to put all that power down to the road if your wheels try to just try to spin and burn the rubber without going anywhere.
What is very effective is (once you have got used to it) accelerate with the normal second gear start as fast as you can without the kickdown shifting it down to first to get a good fast so called rolling start and prevent burning that rubber or the ASR activating. A second later (again you will get used to it with practice), floor it and this will activate the kickdown and slam from 2nd into first gear. This will kick you in the ass and you will be off like a scolded cock.
Just as another useless piece of information.
Regards,
Vance.

Hi John,
What do you mean when you say we are right up there with the other guys? We are the top guys, once you own a Mercedes-Benz specially a 560 SEC, there's no looking back. I have regretfully been a GM mechanic for a great many years but not until I got involved with M-B cars did I really know what real quality is all about. Did you not notice how most of the other car manufacturers are trying to make their cars look like Mercedes cars.
I can't help you to locate your cars service history, if it's not stamped in the book or you have receipts you are probably S.O.L. Mine doesn't have much but being a mechanic I can tell whether my car has been taken care of or not. A stamp in the book sometimes is just that,a stamp in a book. The car can still be a s...b.. you won't really know till you own it for a while. Maybe some of the other member have any better ideas. I am sure you'll get a ton of replies none-the-less.
Anyway welcome to the club we're happy to have you along for the ride. I think I can speak for anyone here even though I am a rookie member myself.
Oh, by the way, did you notice that slide in the right rear of the gear selector slot. When you put your gear shifter all the way back and to the right Your SEC will eat a Corvette for breakfast, one of the same vintage mind you.
Carl, 560 SEC
