[W126 Coupe] test

Hi Dan,

The answer to your question is yes and no (at least as far as the Euro version is concerned ) The 2/3 throttle you mention at the beginning is not far off what you would need to be able to get roughly the fastest 2nd gear start without it kicking down to first straight away. Once this is achieved, then as mentioned before, then you floor it and then get the results I mentioned earlier. As far as just flooring it straight away and achieving instant kickdown to first, the only problem I have is most of the time, is the tires will wheelspin or at least chirp, then my ASR activates and prevents me from putting all the power down to the road. Never had the results you mention regarding having an effect of opening the secondary too early on a 4 barrel system. At least while everything is working properly.

>From your description, It sounds like your mixture and or injection system is not adjusting itself automatically for premium performance depending on circumstances. Only a guess admittedly, but some years back I had a problem with the mixture settings and injection system. It was giving me all sorts of strange effects (one of them being close to your description with the 4 barrels), although the car was quite driveable. I firstly thought it was the ECU. This I tried, but to no effect. It turned out to be sensor that was fed into the ECU. I think it was the air temp sensor. I can't remember now, but it had a huge effect on the performance. It will be in the archives somewhere.

Saying all that though, yes, these things fly even at 2/3 throttle.

Regards,
Vance.

What is very effective is (once you have got used to it)

Vance, have you ever felt that the 560, even without wheelspin, accelerates faster from a standing start at about 2/3 throttle instead of full? At full throttle it feels a little like the old 4-barrels did when you opened the secondaries too early.
