Guys, I really appreciate your replys and ideas on this rather foolish
and seemingly simple issue. But this gets more strange and frustrating.
I spent an hour at Radio Shack and tried about 10 different adapters.
Finely found one that fit perfectly and that adapter's indicator light
lit up when I plugged it into my rear lighter. I thought I was home
free. When I plunged in my new Blackberry adapter, (all my adapters are
new and not cheap thank you) it's indicator light did not come on.
Convinced that my adapter must be bad ( or cheap) I went back into the
store and the clerk tried both the new adapter, my adapter and my
adapter in his adapter plugged into his tester and all worked well in
each scenario. But back in the car at 100 degrees in Houston and tried
again and again. Still no luck.

The man that was helping me is an 18 year RS employee and has never
heard of specific adapter or sleeve for a Mercedes or anything else to
help me other than finding that one adapter that worked fine in the
store but not in my rear cigar lighter with my adapter plugged into
it.(my front is not operating because the bozo Circuit City radio
installer for the previous owner screwed up the circuit so both cigar
lighter and rear defrost are not working. That will be fixed next week).
My theory is that the contact in the rear lighter just being a pressure
contact to enable removal of the ash tray does not have the amps to
carry both adapters. Sounds like minor league diagnostics and I'm not an
auto electrician and the man with 18 years at RS had no clue. I have one
more shot at Fry's Electronics if I strike out there, I think I will
have an adapter hard wired as Brent von B. suggested. I've had it!!

Doug
