I am a stickler for work I don't actually do myself, and I'm not a trans guy, at least not yet.  There is a really good shop in NJ that I'd go to and have for my 300TD trans.   Its "European Transmissions" exchange, Inc., I think the fella's name is Rich.  I do believe he would wait for you to send him the trans and rebuild your original one if you want.  If you arent too "handy" ship him the car, fly up and drive it back, but if you can drive it up there, I believe you could talk him into rebuilding on a Saturday while you wait and drive it back when he's done.  But you'll have to talk to him...He's a car guy, not just n business.  They advertise in MBCA magazine and I think highly of his talent.  Call him at 201-489-7770.  Otherwise....I'd do itmyself if I were you.
