BUT, if the guy knows how to disable it, he gets in, the alarm goes off,
nobody cars because that's how it is nowadays, and 10 seconds later the
alarm is off and people assume somebody just hit the panic button on
their remote or something.

I think you may be oversimplifying things here. It's true that once
inside
the car it's pretty easy to disable pieces of the alarm if you know
where
to do it. However, if the alarm is set and you are either in the
passenger
compartment or outside the car it looks pretty good to me. The following
will set off the alarm:
- opening a door from the inside or outside
- pressing on the brake pedal
- removing the radio
- removing the instrument cluster
- opening the hood or trunk
- towing the car (assuming the tip sensor is still OK and not disabled)
- either shorting or turning on the ignition
This seems pretty comprehensive to me.
