[W126 Coupe] Cracked rubber for lower ball joints

If the rubber boots are cracked on the lower ball joints, plan on replacing
them. They will die soon now (months) from dust or water getting in there,
or the grease coming out once it gets thinned by the hot summer months. Do
the trip but like Dick said, have them checked first.

I've done lower ball joints on a couple of cars and it is indeed a lot of
work. I had to find someone that would press in the new ones after I've
removed the old ones.

Hi Calvin:

If they do not let water in where the rubber is not cracked clear through
you should be fine. A tell tail sign the lower balljoints need to be
replaced will be a creaking (like a wooden boat) when you go over a speed
bump or equivalent. The mechanic will check them for play with a pry bar if
you ask.

They are a whole lot of fun to replace!

Dick
