Couple of thoughts, Ken.

If the oil is too hot, and depending on what the tubing of your pump is
made from, the tubing can melt (and solidify) in your dipstick tube.
Most people will bring the engine up to operating temp, shut off and
let sit for 20 mins before pumping.

The dipstick tube goes down to within a mm or two of the lowest point
in the oil pan (see attached). If you fit your pump with a larger hose,
so that the hose fits relatively snugly in the top inch or two of the
dipstick tube, you will be able to empty the engine in two minutes. The
hose does not need to go to the bottom, if it seals up in the top of
the dipstick tube. The tube becomes the sucking device. Two minutes.
Really, it will work this quickly. And you shouldn't need to elevate
the rear of the car.

Once you get this stuff sorted out, changing the oil filter will take
more time than anything else.

Regards,
Steve
