**** This Month, The Christian Rightwing Finds More Villians <http://www.yawningbread.org/arch_2007/yax-760.htm>
by Au Waipang, Yawning Bread
I know from many "whispers from the inside" that the government's calculation is that the Christian rightwing cannot be ignored, that is to say, they acknowledge they are now being held hostage by them. The cabinet was shocked by the ferocious, organised opposition to the casino proposals in 2004, and no longer have the guts to stan dup to the Christian religionists.

This is what happens when we adhere to the ruling regime's lexical rules and OB markers. This is what happens when we buy into this illusion that we can have perfectly rational and logical political discourse of difference in Singapore. This is what happens when we are ushered into the well-walled conduits laid down by the ruling regime governing political discourse. You will be shredded.

**** School Says Students Not Punishd For Not Turning Up In Costumes <http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/289514/1/.html>
by Lin Yanqin, Today
Some 30 to 40 of <students at Jurong West Secondary>, who did not have costumes, were taken out of the activities and made to stand outside the school office for one-and-a-half hours, said a parent who called the MediaCorp Hotline.
"Half my class didn't even turn up because they couldn't find costumes," said a Secondary 3 students who declined to be named. "We were told we had to come in costumes or we might be punished.
School principal Oliver Jeeva Balasingam told TODAY that Jurong West Secondary did not punish any pupils for not wearning costumes. "Only 30 plus students missed the celebrations, out of about 1,200 students. I don't think that's excluding a lt of people; it's only a minority."
/What the heck? "It's only a minority"? This is exactly the kind of discrimination and intorlence that we should be thinking about preciesly on Racial Harmony day. Why is this kind of behavior even permitted?/
