In Baltische Schachblatter, 1898, a version of the position with bRb6 and wRc7 switched was given. N. Plaksin wrote that this version strengthens the retrostalemate effect (two pieces blocked instead of one), but possibly it was not exactly an aesthetics-improving version, but a correction (or possibly the other, earlier publication had a typo). Anyway, it seems that the later publication fixes the cook.
Best,
Nikolai

PS: By the way, on Mr. Volet's remark about the King and pawn on the 5th rank: In his papers, N. Plaksin also pays particular attention to this kind of e.p. problems and even coins a special term for them. He writes that the "advent" of such problems continues to the present day, and quotes an example from 1993 (in an article written in 1994...). Probably there are even more recent standard e.p. problems.
