Check your transmission fuild level. If that's good I had the same issue. The answer for me was shifting from d to r a couple of times. Which subsided the engagement of reverse. I ended up taking to dealer, they said new tranny. I decided for 10 bucks I try some Lucas transmission fix. That was 5 years ago which fixed the issue. I'm almost sure it was a sticky piston. You could at your own risk try it. As most people claim its snake oil. You can get it at any auto parts store. Just make sure the transmission is good and hot when and if you decide to do it. The stuff pours like honey but once mixed with fluid thins out.
