Hi Folks

I have finally got the knobs off!!,I used heat gun gently, plus a plastic
slotted conduit gripper with multi grips, removed large nuts but the HVAC
panel is still held at the top where the burl wood panel touches the dash,do
I have to remove switches to access some screws and if so what is the best
way to remove the switches?

Kind Regards Dan 1986 560 SEC Euro (220kw)

they can be extremely tight...

I would pull harder...the worst that can happen is you will break the knobs
and they arent expensive from MB.

Many Thanks & Regards

Dan;
Perhaps the knobs became loose and tended to slip off so someone may have
glued them on. Tapping on them to try to "break" the bond may work but
they are connected to the controls that may not like being hammered. I'd
try that gently.

Or if you have an etching tool, place a heavy steel item/plate/putty knive
blade/whatever against the side of the knob grip and carefully use the
etching tool against the metal to in turn vibrate the knob. Strange they
don't come off.... but they ARE over 20 years old and might have never been
removed before.
