Guys,

I cannot think for the life of me what would be causing those odd voltages. I cannot see any relays in the lighting circuit, I cannot imagine that the switch would be causing this. Mice did get into the car at some point and perhaps they have shorted something out, but I have looked and could not find any chewed wires.

My next strategy is to trace the wires from the lights back to the sources and replace them if necessary and see if that does any good. Atl least I know the lights themselves are not a problem as I switched them with each other.

One question. Do you know how that Euro car light switch is supposed to work? Specifically, the switch pulls out and turns, but that does not seem to make any difference in the operation of the lights, so I wonder what was it supposed to do.

Another thing, all the circuits in this car, the lights, door switches, horn, security system, etc. are all tied together in some way. I might just try taking all of the fuses for everything but the lights and see what that does. What do you think.

Voltages are:

left hand right hand

white 12.50 0.23
yellow 0.53 5.50
brown 0.23 5.55

voltages at the fuse seem to be correct. They are:

F2 high beam right 14.01
F4 high beam left 14.02
F6 low beam right 0.53
F8 low beam left 0.56
