Calvin;
I think you're taking the course of last resort. I ihope that you have looked at all alternatives first.
I assume that the fog lights and the parking lights work OK.
I assume that the high and low beams are BOTH dim meaning the only common wire for both is the ground wire.
Beside the removable cover on the back of the headlight assembly is (should be) a black retangular plug-in for the lighting power. That pin connector is one place that a poor contact could cause a dim light. That is also the place where you can connect a new ground test wire (or use a test light). I'd look carefully at this point in the circuit. You can test if you have full power on both headlight power wires. (I'd wager that there IS full power) It could be a corroded pin/socket in the plug or a broken solder joint (the back of the plug should come off so you can remove each individual wire if necessary).

Subject: [W126 Coupe] rewiring the lights on my 83 380SEC Euro
Hi Guys,
I need to rewire the passenger head light on the 83 380 EURO SEC. Because what is there is such a mystery, I want to run new wires out of the fuse box. Basically the relays are a mystery to me, as is the very complicated light switch in the cabin. I would like just to run the wires from the fuse over to the light and splice it in. The car has fog lights, but they run directly out of the headlight "box" so they are not a problem. The issue is which relay contiols which light. The fuse box diagram does not say.
the swithch has thirteen wires coming from it, some of which belong to the hydraulic suspension system. I will need a diagram for this I am afraid
The light box has four wires coming into it. One brown, the ground, one white, probably the hot, one yellow, that is a mystery, and one green that kind of disappers in the light box, probably another ground
Any help appreciated.
By the way, I would remove the battery and the battery tray and clean out the mess. In my case, mice had built a nest under the battery tray in both cars. Also, tons of leaves had accumulated there and under the brke fluid resevoir. These cars have more nooks and cranies than an english muffin.
