[W126 Coupe] Power Steering

I found out that with some care and ingenuity, you can replace the front
seal without tearing down the whole pump.

When my 300sd's pump was slinging fluid from the back of the pulley, I
ended up pulling the pulley, drilling very small holes in the seal to
thread some screws into the metal reinforcement collar inside it, and
then pulling it out using some different thickness material set on the
edge to be able to rock a set of vice grip pliers on, working the seal
out from side to side.
A careful cleaning to make sure that no filings had fallen inside and
been left there (helped by the fact that the fluid in the reservoir was
constantly trying to run out that way, any time it wasn't upended), was
followed by carefully tapping the new seal into place.

That was around 15k miles ago, and no further signs of power steering
leakage.

I know that there are seal pullers that should fit this, but the ones
that I had available in the local area rental sources wouldn't fit.

This all being said, it's not the main way in the manual, and does
require getting a bit messy and thinking outside the box a little.

Best of luck,
-Josh
