[W126 Coupe] 560SEL odd sounds from the back of my car.

I heard a very strange sound from the back of my car today. It appeared to
be coming from behind the back seat and sounded like a popping and
spluttering noise (like a coffee peculator)

It only happened when the car was rolling down the road and got louder as I
moved faster, but it was not consistent and would disappear for a while.

I don't see any fluid under the car and when i bounce the trunk, i don't
hear the noise. The car also does not drive or behave strangely.

Any ideas? I'm either thinking something with the shocks or a sway bar link.
