David,

There have been numerous attempts at converting an M117 engine to aftermarket EFI, some more successful than others.

One refrain I keep hearing is that you're going to need a lot of time on a dyno. Depending on how close you've got such facilites and what their hourly rate is, it may the most expensive part of the project.
