Jonathan - What was Metric's reaction when you told them about the problems you experienced?

Dick Danville, VT

Never was questioning your machinist's experience or qualifications.

I simply knew it was more then one person, how many exactly, never had need to find out.

That's why I so very much value my Machinists shop, Everything is in house as far as machining goes. And yes, last time I was there he was getting a Gullwing engine ready for a fellow in CA who was headed to Goodwood. He recently finished a 6L quad cam M117 top to bottom and he's currently machining two sets of my quad cam M117 heads, one set which was Badly damaged and is looking As New last trip I took.

I'd love to have experience with one of Metric's engines that was first rate/no complaints...till then, again, I can only comment on that which I have personally dealt with.

That said, people can utilize whom ever they feel comfortable with and I hope said choice meets with their satisfaction over the duration.

Not sure what general impression of MM is but it's a three man outfit, very accessible. Some of their machine work is outsourced to individuals of equal experience but all of the building is in house. Though Mike at Metrics has two assistants, his name goes on every motor built.

Re one man, one engine... coincidently they currently have one man's motor on the bench to determine why it detonated. Their report will be used by Mercedes Benz NA to determine the fate of that man. ;)

Lastly, they turn out product far exceeding "decent." Their clients include concourse winning MB owners down to humble little M117 owners as myself.

Good luck with your transplant regardless of choice.

The fellow who does my machining and when things are busy, builds my short blocks has been specializing in Mercedes engines for 35 years. Every Mercedes dealer in the tri state area uses him exclusively.

He is a one man outfit. A little like another subsidiary of mb that I know...one man one engine. You deal directly with the person who is doing the work. I like that.

I have encountered two metric rebuilt engines...so I can only comment on those engines. I'm sure they have turned out a decent product or they wouldn't still be in business. That said, I don't see me utilizing their services anytime soon.

Bruce,

Thanks for chiming in. No, I do not work for Metrics. Yes, I have
worked with them on several projects, directly and indirectly for over
a year now. Top notch, incredibly fluent and knowledgeable of just
about every post-war MB motor produced. Their facility is nothing but
engines, top to bottom, period. That is my point.

The manner in which the examples were phrased was loaded, I'm sorry.
