Carl,

I'm not sure about the cavity around it, but I've found a couple of my
Benz's have the coax wire with the RF connector laying under the
passenger floor mat.
On the car I parted out, I traced the wire to the same area as the radio
antenna, (before I pulled the whole wiring harness out.)

As was mentioned in the first reply, I'm fairly sure it's an old analog
cell phone antenna wire, just missing the transmitter and handset now.
