[W126 Coupe] Rear Hydraulic suspension

Thanks Barry and alal (?). I have drained the system myself. I also removed
the filter and cleaned it and the reservoir, too. The oil is now very clear.

I had taken the car into a local shop in Grants Pass that has been around
for a while and advertises itself as servicing Mercedes and BMW. The car was
leaking oil very, very badly and I didn't want to take it the 30 minute
drive to the dealership in Medford for fear of causing a greater problem.
The engine was also running rough when it was under 1500 rpm so I asked them
to check that out, too.

They had the car for about a week and finally called me to pick the car up.
They said that they couldn't feel the rough running but that they had fixed
the leak. The car was running rough when I dropped it off and it was running
rough when I picked it up. They hadn't cleaned up the oil that had leaked
and flowed all over the under parts of the car so it was still dripping a
little when I drove it into our garage.

Well the car was still leaking the next day. I didn't know if it was just
dripping from the oil leak that they had "fixed" so I waited a few days and
saw that the reservoir was still getting lower, so I took it back to the
independent shop and after a day they told me that I would have to replace
the hydraulic pump which would cost about $1,300, so I took the car back and
drove it to the Mercedes dealership in Medford.

The dealership told me that the rough idle was caused by the #4 plug which
was completely oil fouled, and the problem was probably valve seals,
although the #4 oil ring may be bad. They gave me the spark plug.

I took the car home and flushed the system, tightened the hex-head bolts and
the line from the reservoir to the pump. The way things are now: after
several days, there are a few small drops of oil on the garage floor that
may be leftover from the previous leak.

I have the seals, etc that I bought from the dealership, and if I still have
a leak, I will remove the pump and replace the two O-rings and shaft seal.
There is also a rectangular gasket that I will replace if there is one that
I take out. The pump is circular and the gasket is rectangular, but I'll see
what I have when I remove the pump.
