[W126 Coupe] W126 Electric Conversion

I only wish that I had the money to do what you are thinking of doing to your car! It may be cheaper and more logical to convert a classic 300 SL than an SEC to electric but if money is no object you definitely have my attention. Why exactly is there an interest to converting to electricity in the first place? Direct current is not really that efficient; it takes more power to generate DC than what is produced. If you could produce AC (as in a miniature nuclear power plant under your hood), you would have some kind of green efficient machine for sure.

I think that I would go get me a nice electric golf cart and go cruising to my hearts continent or until I was bored stiff . . . problem solved.

I hope that you take all this in stride and in humor, it's been fun reading everyone's opinion.

I fail to see the efficiency of scrapping the insides of a marvelous car, and then spending countless dollars and hours to convert it, only to move the pollution source from the tailpipe to the power plant smokestack.

Have you looked into the challenges of disposing of those batteries when they wear out? Talk about a toxic waste problem!

Hey, it's your car, your money, and your hours. I'm just saying if it were mine I'd practice on something less valuable.

There are a number of reasons why these haven't seen the light of day, but the main one is that our economy is not based on efficiency and electric vehicles are to our economy like a wood stake is to a vampire.
