[W126 Coupe] Heater / AC blower assembly

Mine just had the same problem and it was the blower motor. I replaced it
myself, very easy job, up under the passenger foot well. Just be very
careful removing the fan blades, if they crack you will have to replace them

My Heater/ AC fan has now stopped completely.  

 

At first it made a worn bearing noise

 

Then it would run for a few minutes and stop  

 

How can I tell if it is the blower motor or regulator?  In the past the
recommendations were to replace the assembly not just the motor.

 

Any ideas
