[W126 Coupe] Heater / AC blower assembly

My Heater/ AC fan has now stopped completely.  



At first it made a worn bearing noise 



Then it would run for a few minutes and stop  



How can I tell if it is the blower motor or regulator?  In the past the recommendations were to replace the assembly not just the motor. 



Any ideas
