[W126 Coupe] painting SEC grille

Markus,

    I have had my grill painted for over 15 years. I left all the chrome
alone and

Just painted the fins. I have them covered with the 3M product to avoid
chips.

Has anyone here painted their SEC grille?  If so, did you remove the
chrome and how did you do it?  I got another grille and was thinking of
painting it, but a cursory look didn't tell me how the chrome separates
from the rest, and with the archives down, I can't search...
