I had the same problem. The lock cyl was fine. The key wore out after 20 years! A new key and all has been well.

As to the lock cylinder problem: I have a similar situation. When it locks up, I take a large paperclip, straighten it out, insert it into the uppermost opening (a slight oval area) at the perimeter of the movable cylinder, press it in and simultaneously turn the key. You have to be persistent and apply some pressure, but you might free it up and start the car, then spray a little WD40 there.

My 1985 500 SEC had a slight shake like it was missing at idle....thought it was a spark plug but
they checked out ok. My mechanic looked at it (he claims for 8 hours) and replaced the
ignition distributor cap but that didn't solve the problem. Drove the car and the initial
shake is gone but now there is a rolling vibration when the car is standing still.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bob

Best to just pay for a new lock cylinder. $60. The car's old and they
wear out.

That is really bad news I'm afraid.

You'll need to be able to unlock it to remove and replace the lock cylinder.

If you can't wiggle it open, or find someone who can pick the lock for you, it's almost World War III to remove the lock and half the dash will need to be dismantled.
