[W126 Coupe] window trim removal/replacement

Now that insurance is covering painting 3 of the 4 quarter panels on my 560SEC, I have decided to paint the whole car. My question is regarding the chrome trim around the door windows (top and bottom). The person doing the work said that he couldn't guarantee that they would come off cleanly for reuse. Does anybody have experience with this? I'm just wondering if he is being cautious in case they do get damaged or if it more likely that it might not happen if due care is taken. Thoughts? Thanks.
