Since the car is in California already it would be a simple matter to
bring the registration current. So it is saleable to a California person but
would still have to pass California smog. It is not easy to bring old cars
into California due to the smog restrictions. Where ever it moves to it
would have to be hauled (I am assuming not operable and not currently
registered) on a car carrier. I just moved one 400 miles at a cost of $396.
Check with the auto shippers as to cost to move ... you can find them online
and some have online quotes.
I add my condolences as well.
I have a question about bringing in cars from other states. I have been
shopping for a 1969-1971 280SL "Pagoda" MBZ and it's possible that I might
find the best deal out of California where I live. The issue about smog and
California licensing has caught my attention. My '89 560SEC has always
been a California car so when I bought it, there were no smog/registration
concerns. Any help or commentary?
