[W126 Coupe] tranny fluid leak?

i've got a tranny leak and a while back a guy told me it was the pinon seal something?   can anyone shed some light on pinon seal.   how much is it to repair.  the mileage is 230K an 88 560 sec.  probably should think about getting another sec if the repair is to much or if i need another tranny.
