Do what you want, the only  thing special about MB Fluids are the container
they are in or the dye added to change their color

What fluid did you use?  I'm thinking that possibly the wrong fluid was used
by the prior owner.

Another 2 cents - I had my tranny fluid completely replaced with MB fluid
including the torque converter last year, however, I had the mechanic add
Lucas Transmission Additive that adds viscosity and I never had a problem.
You might want to try adding the Lucas product before you go for an
expensive repair. I believe that NAPA carries it- Terry

Just my two cents and comments from my long time MB mechanic as well as my
classic Detroit iron mechanic so I believe it to be valid. Both of these
guys have been in business over 35 years and have seen most issues.

 In an older transmission, they both say; never, never change the fluid
completely, only about 1/2 of the fluid should be drained and replaced.
Apparently the new fluid although nice and clean has less viscosity than the
old contaminated  fluid which the well used transmission needs on the clutch
or pressure plates if I remember the comment specifically. The new fluid is
just too slick for the friction required. As far as a fix, I am happy to ask
my MB guy. He may have something that won't hurt too much. Just let me know.

Hello Folks just wanted to thank the group for the help w/pass issues to
repair my 1984 380 SEC. Recently I changed the transmission filter & oil
after replacing the same amount measured from the drain the shift from 2nd
to 3rd pauses. I will say that I did not drain my torque converter. It
swifted correctly prior to the service, I did check the vacuum line on the
left side of trans to make sure it was on damaged/leaking. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Cecil Elliott 1984 380 SEC Euro

Cecil,

I'm curious to see what the responses are as I have the same issue with an
'82, although it is from 3rd to 4th that I get the rev/slip.  I have
manually shifted to hold off the slip as it does not seem to be bad at
higher rpms.  I also find it to be worse when the fluid it cold and thicker,
which may be why you are getting it now after fluid replacement.
