[W126 Coupe] Question on electic rear shade

Eddie can you put that in a car that did not come with a rear shade?

What are the symptoms?  Does it make a whirring sound when you press the switch?  Can you pull it up by hand, or is it stuck?

I have a 1991 560 SEC.  When I bought it, the seller told me that it has a rare option: a power rear shade.  He said it wasn't working but it wouldn't take much to get it working.   Unfortunately, my mechanic tells me that I need a new shade and a new motor for a total of $1,000    The shade itself is in good condition, so if I could get the spool it goes on, that would be fine.  Also, if I could get a new motor it would save me money compared to buying the whole base.  I would appreciate any suggestions.
