[W126 Coupe] Starter Problem

I suspect you could drive it a good while longer, but you might chew up
the teeth of the flex plate.
As to difficulty, I had no real problem with it on either my 300SD or
the 500SEC when I replaced starters, other than having poor luck with
the reman starters that I had.
(Both were from Schucks, one came with stripped out threads in a
mounting bolt hole, and the other had something wrong with it's
alignment, as it would jam into the flywheel gearing and keep the
starter engaged even after the key was released.)
Finished both with just hand tools, no impact tools or wrenches above
3/8" drive. I may have gotten lucky though.
Best of luck, either way you go!
