[W126 Coupe] 1988 560 SEC pricing question

Good Morning MB team,

Unfortunately, I have to move again, so I would appreciate a price opinion
on this car. In two years, I have gone over everything, and dearly paid the
price-I didn't know about Jonathan then!!

Some of the basics, new motor mounts, valve seals, transmission, various
suspension components, too much to think about on AC, compressor, control
module, drier, some vacuum modules, belts and hoses-I definitely overpaid
for this-but I really do love the car! Here is the ad, would appreciate
advice or comments. I do have pictures.
Thanks
John Folger

Over $12,000 restoration investment!!! Asking 9600 OBO!!! If you ever wanted
to own one of the legendary SEC 2 door coupes, than here it is! This 180 MPH
screamer is Anthracite Grey (almost Black) with color matched BBS wheels and
painted out lower body panels so everything matches. With the roof open and
the windows down, you almost have a convertible, but with sedan safety. No
car handles the Autobahn better that this. Mercedes only built 7400 of these
in that year, so she's pretty rare! Standard equipment is the injected
560-the largest and fastest engine of its day! Automatic 5 speed
Transmission is rebuilt, new brakes all around, all systems have been gone
over and everything works except the seat belt presenters. I haven't
finished the interior-I am planning for front seats, headline, carpet and
dash-about $900 bucks gets that done. This car has a later radio with trunk
mounted 6 CD changer. You will certainly run out of nerve before this car
runs out of top end!! She will blow almost anything off the road! The car is
a 1988 with only 125K miles, just enough to break her in!!
I have to move and no place to keep her ;o( I would like to see her adopted
to a good home.

Hi folks, I would like opinions please. On my '90 SEC my temp gauge is
hitting the 100 degree mark and a little above in this 100 degree F. heat in
Houston TX. traffic. Once I get rolling it drops back to just a little more
than the 80 degree mark. Everything seems to be up to snuff but It has been
recommended that the radiator be replaced.

1. Do you agree?
2. if so, is there a good source for a replacement radiator among this
group?

Thanks,

Doug in Houston

100 out of 100 is a good batting average.
It is not normal to live 100 degree heat...was in Houston and OKC

Jay is funny!! Correct too, kinda. I used to live in Detroit and Cleveland -
cooler but REALLY sucks in the wintertime.

100 at 100 is normal. My two W126's would follow the exterior temperature -
if the outside was 90F, the engine was 90C, etc. In a Vegas summer - 105F
begat 105C on the engines. Then I put on dual electric fans in place of the
viscous clutch on the 560SEL (and a 140-amp alternator) and that engine
stays much closer to 80C and my AC doesn't start getting warm sitting at a
traffic light. But that's another story.

I took my radiator out (easy DIY) and down to the local radiator shop that
said they could disassemble/reassemble a Behr plastic tanked/aluminum
radiator. For $94, they rodded it out, flushed it, resealed it, and pressure
tested it. Works like new.

Later,
Mike in Las Vegas

Hi folks, I would like opinions please. On my '90 SEC my temp gauge is
hitting the 100 degree mark and a little above in this 100 degree F. heat in
Houston TX. traffic. Once I get rolling it drops back to just a little more
than the 80 degree mark. Everything seems to be up to snuff but It has been
recommended that the radiator be replaced.

1. Do you agree?
2. if so, is there a good source for a replacement radiator among this
group?

Thanks,

Doug in Houston
