[W126 Coupe] Outside airtemp gauge

Hi Stein and Jay,

Actually the wire from the sensor (affixed under your front bumper)
ruins in one complete harness up your fender well and to a connector
under the fuse holder tray. It is the only cable carrying both (-)
voltage and (+) voltage to traverse the underside of your fuse tray. It
is also a possible point of trouble should the ground come in contact
with the hot side of any of the fuse holder terminals. This was a
problem in 86 and earlier MB's where the harness insulation melted and
you had ground contacting hot power with no fuse to break the circuit.

To check..disconnect your battery ground then remove the screw sets on
the fuse tray and lift from the front upward. Look for a 2-wire cable
and connector. The cable from the sensor is connected to the cable
running to your IC at this point. If you see any signs of heat on the
cable insulation, you have found your problem.

In either case bad cable or bad sensor this is where the replacement
sensor plugs into the cabin IC harness. If you need detail on repairing
the IC harness due to insulation failure. Send me a note.

Regards,
Dick
