[W126 Coupe] Auxilary Fan Problems

Ken,

I converted to electrical fans when I had the M119 engine installed and went through a number of fans before I found something that worked.

The first thing I learned was that there are no standards so the manufacturers' claims are all over the place and mostly hype. If you see someone claiming their fan moves 3,000 cfm, but draws only 7 amp, go to another brand.

The second thing I learned is the importance of the shroud. How well the shroud fits dramatically affects the fan's performance.

I can recommend the Spal fans. They're expensive, but they work as advertised.

Their 16" High Performance fans should get the job done.

You'll need both the cooling fan and the aux fan and I wouldn't replace the main cooling fan with dual 12" fans unless you plan on having a new shroud fabricated.

Hey Guys;

It has been quite a while since I posted, and since the mortgage market is in the toilet, I am back to driving my beloved 86 560SEC, that is 325,000 miles young once again!! Anyway, the auxilary fan has seized up, and I was going to replace it with a 16" universal one. I have seen them pretty cheap on e-bay, but my real question is should I replace the main clutch driven fan with one, or two electric ones? And if I do, do I still need the auxillary fan in addition to the main electric ones? Also, I have read posts about flex a lite electric fans, but they are expensive. Has anyone had any experience with the less expensive ones?? Like the Jeggs fans? Also, I have a leak in one of my AC hoses. When I first got the car in 1994, I took it into the benz dealer, and they replaced one AC hose (I think it is the same one that is bad now) and it was about 900.00. Can I go to an AC shop and have them fabricate a hose?? I think it would be quite a bit less than the MB OEM part.

Thanks

Ken
