Hi Simon,
Your description of pass door lock operating the other devices from the
pump in the trunk to pass door suggests there is no leak in the vacuum
system and that pump is working just fine..
Circuit goes as follows: pump - boot latch - gas flap - pass door
- driver's door. Any leak and no latching in central locking will
occur. So, you have no leak.
It could well be the wired circuit at the drivers door has an open. I'd
start with testig the cable that plugs into the door handle circuit as
it may have developed an open in the door hinge area or right at the
door handle itself. You will need to remove door handle to access and
replace or swap. No need to open the interior panel.
The 83 used two separate round booted cable entries to the door at the
hinge area. Later models used a single rectangular boot.
