[W126 Coupe] Door locks

Hi,

I have a 1983 500SEC (which I love). The door key can unlock and lock the
passenger door and the boot. But when I turn it in the drivers door lock, it
turns but doesn't  do anything. I have tried moving the little look stick
with some pliers, but it will not move.

Should my car have central locking? 

What should I check first? What are the most likely problems with these
locks?
