i remember seeing that yellow screw(s)...i replaced the old tps with a new tps and removed all carbon buildup and now the car seems to running and idling beter however the engine light is still on. i haven't done the reset yet. i'll do it tomorrow. thanks for info.
Dick Spellman <dick.spellman at gmail.com> wrote: Gary, for your original question the answer is NO there is no way to calibrate the tps. You should get closed at idle, open anywhere else in the throttle plate movement and a closed at WOT (wide-open-throttle) which is the other circuit on the 3-pin switch.
I've torn down one throttle body to remove a heavy carbon build-up and replace the original tps that proved to work just fine. There is the painted (yellow) screw to the side of the throttle body which adjusts the stop on the throttle plate but, if you go just a bit too far on this screw, the tps will not give you a closed at idle reading. It's factory set and should be left alone IMHO.
Take care,
Dick

I don't know what year MB we are talking about but, if the code is on the diag. connector with red LED up at the firewall by battery, you need to reset the code and then see if it crops up again.
Do you have this type of code reader and does it have a little thumb button next to the red led? If so, depress and hold for something like 5 seconds until it gives one long blink then release. That should reset it.

once i close the throttle plate and hook the meter to the electrical posts what should the meter do or display?
Dick Spellman <dick.spellman at gmail.com> wrote: Gary,
You need to check the closed position of the throttle plate in the throttle body then attach the tps and test. You may have a bad wiring harness to the tps as well. If the car was starting then stopping abruptly it could well be the throttle plate and body have a build up of carbon. This will prevent the throttle plate from closing and your tps will never read closed circuit at idle as it should.
