My father too died of cancer in 1990. He was a chain smoker, quit in 1963, but the effect was not reversed. This is really not a political forum, but I don't necessarily think that it should be banned, as I feel we each need to take responsibility for our own actions and lives. My father knew it was bad way before 1963. If we can recall back that far those of us who were children then were told not to smoke because it would "stunt" our growth. Maybe lung cancer was not identified then, but bad effects were. Governments are inept when coming to running our lives and should be limited as much as possible. We only insist on governments looking out for us when we refuse to take personal responsibility.

John,
I'm sorry to hear of your tragic loss. My condolences to you and your family.
While smoking is a major cause of lung cancer, my good friend's wife recently passed away from lung cancer and she never smoked in her life. The real tragedy is that my friend is 75 years old and married a young girl thirty years younger. Yet she left him too early.
Cancer is a terrible disease. Everyone who smokes should stop. I believe it should be banned.
Shin

I would like to dedicate this posting to my brother-in-law, Rudy Tan, who died on Christmas Eve of lung cancer which had metastasized to his brain. Rudy had a 1986 SEC, black/palomino, and he loved that car. When he learned of my interest in SECs, he told me about this forum. I am grateful for that, as I have enjoyed reading the postings.
Rudy was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was liked by everyone he met and loved by his family, who stood by him until the very end. You see, Rudy had a tragic flaw: He was a smoker. Up until last April, he was healthy and enjoying life. Eight months later, he was gone.
So, if any of you smoke, I have just one word for you: quit.
Please spread the word. In memory of Rudy Tan.
