[W126 Coupe] 1984 MB 500 SEC tie rod assembly

When I replaced mind several years ago I asked the same question of the MB
Parts guy. He talked me into the whole tie rod assy and I’m glad he did.
After changing everything out, I kept the old parts. A year or two later I
slid off a snow covered road one late night. I got back on the road with no
apparent damage, but the driving was treacherous and got home safely. The
next morning (Saturday) my wife and I were leaving on a 600mi road trip for
our vacation. The roads were clear by then and we hit the road, but I
could not keep the car going straight. We turned around and went back home.
I found a bent tie rod. I dug out one of the old rods I kept and swapped
the ends (counting the turns to remove each end, so I could install them in
the same position). I was on the road with a ½ hour, vacation saved

(also, if I’m not mistaken, the whole thing as about the same price as just
the 2 ends)

I am in the process of installing new right/left/center tie rods, upper and
lower ball joints, and am wondering about the necessity for new sleeves, or
whatever the correct terminology for the connectors is. I will appreciate
any input and advice on this matter.
Thanks, everyone.
