[W126 Coupe] AMG History Lesson

Thanks for the information Jonathon, every little bit helps. My 500SLC has
an AMG body kit, a whiteout paint job and possibly other internal mods of
which I am unaware but after contacting the AMG historical group and sending
pictures to them, I still have no definitive info on whether the work on the car
was done at AMG prior to its export to the US.

Thanks for the advice guys... and RG, I can always expect a dose of sagacity
from you! ;-)
Don't you ever get up to Chicago?
It's likely that the monovalve never had a chance to break in on my SEC.
It's one of those use it or lose it things. I'll check it out.
Thanks again & all the best!!
Cheers Axel!

Hi Group,

My A/C/heater blower fan never stops running. It functions perfectly well
when the A/C or heater is on. The trouble is when the heating/cooling is
stopped, because the blower keeps running at the slowest speed. My mechanic says
the regulator is faulty which I prefer to leave as a final option because of
its price. Any suggestions?

Ummmm.....

Isn't that the way it is supposed to work?

Do you have the automatic climate control with the push-button panel, or the
manual one with the twin dials?

On my ACC the only way to turn the fan completely off is to press the "0"
button. In either economy mode or with the AC on, the fan will be on at some
speed.Regards, Axel J. Wulff610-731-5453 Cellular610-572-4611 Home

That's exactly right. If you have the push button, hit the O and see what
happens, usually farthest right.
If this is correct, get a new mechanic

For those of you who have some experience disassembling your cars, I
have a question.

How do you get the torque converter to seat correctly, and the
transmission to bolt back onto the engine?

After pulling the destroyed engine out of my car, and separating the
engine and transmission, I can not get the transmission to bolt back up
with the "new" engine.

I've measured the depth of the flex plate, thinking that there might be
a difference between the two engines (same depth on both, measured at
multiple points), measured how far the torque converter is set down into
the bell housing on both of the transmissions that I have access to
(also the same depth).

When I try to bolt the transmission onto the engine, it ends up binding
and bowing the flex plate. If I pull it much further than the start of
that, it binds up enough that the engine and transmission cannot be rotated.

On a related note, should the transmission input shaft be relatively
free turning? The old crusty tranny that came with my usable engine
spins freely, while the input shaft on the one that I pulled out of the
car won't turn at all, unless you spin the output shaft.

Thanks for any input, I had to call it quits for the night, after
multiple attempts to get things to seat correctly, or to figure out if
there was some difference between the two years of engines.

-Josh

Yes, I do have the push button panel. If the problem were not hitting O and
still complain about the fan not stopping I would have needed a new brain
rather than a new mechanic, wouldn't I!... :)

Of course the trouble is that the fan keeps running when I turn it off by
pushing O.
